Letters of Support Requested for Long Range Transportation Plan

7/30/2025

The City is in process of writing a grant application in hopes of an award of $40,000 to write a Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). A LRTP is essentially a list of various transportation projects that could improve traffic and pedestrian safety and flow patterns. This is an engineered study which may state "sidewalks, curb, gutter and paving are recommended" or "a roundabout is suggested" here or there, just as examples. This planning initiative is a critical step toward improving public safety and accessibility.
However, before applying for grants or loans to conduct a project as big as "installing sidewalks, curb, gutter and paving" anywhere, a municipality must prove it has done its homework to identify key areas for improvement, guide infrastructure investments, and ensure they meet the growing needs of our community. A LRTP will prioritize safety and improvements of traffic flow patterns, how the City will implement such projects, and identify possible funding sources. (This is similar to the Capital Improvements Plan the City completed in 2024, but now we're narrowing it down to just transportation.)
The Mayor has been going door to door asking for letters of support to be included with the City's grant application. If you think this is a good idea to plan for Three Forks' growth and enhance our existing streets and pedestrian travel ways, please consider emailing the Mayor a short paragraph voicing your support for the above. You may email these to mayor@threeforksmontana.us or drop off a hand-written letter to City Hall at 206 Main Street, or mail it to PO Box 187, Three Forks.
Letters should be submitted no later than August 15, 2025.
Thank you!
